5 Things to Do When Visiting Saugerties
It only takes a little more than 30 minutes to reach Saugerties from our Catskills resort. Found on the shores of the Hudson River, this quaint town is a perfect day trip for anyone looking to explore more of Upstate New York’s beauty. One of the best things about this spot is its variety of activities, attractions, and businesses.
- After making the short drive, start your day at Bluestone Roasting Co. Grab one of the seasonal drinks and breakfast paninis to go, or dine on the outdoor patio.
- Spend some time exploring the Saugerties Lighthouse. Found at the mouth of Esopus Creek, the landmark can be reached by walking the half-mile trail at the end of Lighthouse Drive. Portions of the Lighthouse Trail experience mild tidal flooding on a twice-daily basis which may cover portions of the trail. Be sure to check the Tide Table when planning your visit.
- Give yourself plenty of time to explore Opus 40. Home to a 63-acre outdoor sculpture park, this spot features seven acres of sculpture and meadows, a gallery, a museum, and walkable quarry trails.
- If you feel like doing some hiking, check out Falling Waters Preserve. The 149-acre space is technically located on Glasco, but its picturesque beauty secured it a spot on this list. Be sure to walk by the remains of the Mulford ice house.
- Say hi to the animals at Catskill Animal Sanctuary. Over two decades ago, this 150-acre refuge was created to house rescued farm animals. Throughout the years, it has rescued thousands of animals. Drop-in visits are not permitted, so contact the Catskill Animal Sanctuary directly to reserve a tour time.
Before making the drive back to your Upstate New York home base, stop by one of the incredible restaurants in Saugerties. Dine at local restaurants like The Dutch Ale House, Mirabella’s Restaurant, or Stella’s Station.
