A Checklist of the Top Upstate New York Outdoor Activities

Not only is our Catskills resort close to some of the best things to do in the area, but our grounds are all home to memorable activities. When creating your itinerary of outdoor adventures, be sure to include a mix of on-site and off-site options.

• Go for a walk along our Brookside Wander path, a partnership between our resort and the Catskill Streams Buffer Initiative. This area is great for learning about pollinating meadows, flood mitigation, and native plants.
• Sign up for one of our complimentary guided nature walks. These hour-long excursions take you all over the Emerson grounds as a guide teaches you about Catskill history and wildlife.
• Unplug for a while and hike to an area waterfall. Places like Kaaterskill Falls, Plattekill Falls, and Diamond Notch Falls are known for their picturesque views. Check with the Catskills Visitor Center before heading out for up-to-date conditions.
• Spend some time wandering through the Brunel Sculpture Garden. The outdoor attraction features several sculptures and statues made by Emile Brunel between 1929 and 1941.
• Enjoy a ride on a pedal-powered rail bike with Rail Explorers. Being an overnight guest at the resort means you can enjoy a discounted ticket on select dates for this adventure along the Esopus Creek.
• For an aquatic adventure, reserve a kayak rental with A Day Away Kayak Rentals. Call 845-688-2828, option 0, to book your rental and receive 10 percent off. Explore the Rondout Creek and take in Historic Kingston from the water.
• End your Friday or Saturday around a campfire. Don’t forget to stop by the Front Desk to purchase a s’mores kit to add a sweet treat to your evening activity.
