5 Catskills Waterfalls to Discover

Staying at our Upstate New York resort means you’re surrounded by a plethora of outdoor adventures. One such outing is hiking to area waterfalls. Be sure to ask our Reservations department about picnic lunch options to enjoy while listening to the roaring waters. Before venturing on any hike or outdoor excursion, we highly recommend checking in with the Catskills Visitor Center for the most recent updates on road, trail, and mountain conditions.

  1. Located in Hunter, Kaaterskill Falls is a 260-tiered waterfall on Spruce Creek. The hike to the falls is roughly 1.4 miles round trip. This is one of the most popular destinations in the area, so don’t be surprised if you aren’t the only one navigating the trail.
  2. One of the best-kept secrets in the area is Woodstock Waterfall Park. Found off Tinker Street, the main road through Woodstock, this park is small but one of the most tranquil places in town.
  3. Another option in Hunter is Plattekill Falls. The trail to this spot is only about a third of a mile and starts at the junction in front of the informational kiosk. Swimming is prohibited at the waterfall.
  4. Make your way to Lexington to view Diamond Notch Falls. You can access the trail off Spruceton Road to see the falls that drop roughly 25 feet into an amphitheater-like setting.
  5. If you’re looking for more of a day trip option, consider Tompkins Falls. Found in the Delaware Wild Forest, the falls can be seen from the road. For a more up-close view, there are several trails that offer you a closer look.
