This was the year the town of Bethel (not the town of Woodstock!) hosted the original Woodstock Music and Art Festival. The multi-day festival welcomed over half a million people to the 600-acre farm to listen to 30 acts. Today, the famous festival’s site is home to the Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center and the Bethel Woods Museum, which tells the history of this event through incredible exhibits.
The Main Exhibit Gallery is home to the permanent exhibit, including 20 films, 164 artifacts, 300 photographic murals, five interactive productions, and interpretive panels. You’ll learn about the decade’s fashion while listening to music from the area. You can also watch films that use original footage from the event to bring history to life.
For an extra special visit, time your visit so that it’s on the same day as a Pavilion State concert. You enjoy discounted admission to the museum when purchased with a concert ticket. Visitation is high on concert days, so if you aren’t planning on attending the concert, consider visiting on a different day.
