1. Indian Head Wilderness
Located in Elka Park, Indian Head Wilderness is an excellent option for expert hikers. Five peaks fall within this area, and the views from the top of them make the climb to them worth it. There are several trails to explore of varying lengths and difficulty.
2. Slide Mountain Wilderness
Slide Mountain Wilderness is only about 15 minutes away, making it a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts staying with us. Measuring more than 47,500 acres, this is the largest area in the Catskill Forest Preserve. Featuring more than 35 miles of trails, it is also home to the highest peak in the Catskills.
3. Hunter-West Kill Wilderness
Make the roughly 30-minute drive to spend time inside Hunter-West Kill Wilderness, found in West Kill. This spot is home to both the Schoharie and Ashokan watersheds, as well as five mountain peaks. It is a great spot to enjoy various outdoor activities like hiking and fishing.
