History of the World’s Largest Kaleidoscope

Recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in 1997, the World’s Largest Kaleidoscope stands at an impressive 60 feet tall and 37.5 feet in diameter. Originally a grain silo from Riseley Flats Farm, this towering structure was reimagined and transformed into a mesmerizing work of art by award-winning kaleidoscope artist Charles Karadimos.

A striking piece of the Catskills’ storied hippie past, the Kaleidoscope continues to embody the region’s spirit of creativity and innovation.

The original Kaleidoshows were conceived and designed by psychedelic art pioneer Isaac Abrams and his son Raphael Abrams, a visionary computer artist. Their visuals were further enhanced by a surround sound experience and a captivating musical score, composed by Gary Burke, creating an immersive, multi-sensory spectacle that continues to captivate visitors of all ages.

Each Kaleidoshow is a unique blend of art, technology, and imagination, evolving over the years to bring new visual experiences. With a rotation of themed shows, there’s always something new to discover.

Unlike traditional kaleidoscopes made with beads and glass, ours uses original video art projected through a custom lens and mirror system, allowing us to preserve the symmetry of classic kaleidoscopic visuals—while expanding what’s possible.

This show shares a visual story of how the elements came from star dust, set to music that resonates with the rhythm of creation. A thoughtful and space-themed journey through the origins of everything. This show is popular with kids!

The Earth Laughs in Flowers

Inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote, this show begins with the story of how the Emerson was founded with nature in mind and encourages us to see ourselves as stewards of the Earth. Soft music and vivid imagery of flowers and natural beauty guide this serene and thoughtful experience.
