Meet Marty Appel and hear stories about your favorite Bronx Bombers! The New York Times refers to Appel as one of baseball’s premier authorities on the New York Yankees. Hired in 1968 to answer Mickey Mantle’s fan mail, Appel was later named the Yankees’ Public Relations Director at age 23, which earned him the title of the Major League’s youngest Public Relations Director. Appel eventually devoted his time as the Yankees’ television producer in the 1980s and 90s and is the award-winning author of 24 baseball books including Pinstripe Empire, Munson and Casey Stengel: Baseball’s Greatest Character.
Appel spoke last year at the Emerson to celebrate Yankee relief pitcher Mariano Rivera and starting pitcher Mike Mussina’s 2019 induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. 2020 inductees include another storied Yankee, shortstop Derek Jeter. Appel returns to the Emerson to share anecdotes on Jeter and more.
