There is no shortage of ways to explore the wonder of the Catskill Mountains and Hudson Valley during your stay at Emerson Resort & Spa. Located two hours away from the bustling city of Manhattan, you’ll feel like you’ve entered a wooded wonderland as you explore the resort and surrounding areas. Take a break from bird watching, embarking on waterfall tours, and hiking area trails to explore the Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway. This adventure is the perfect day trip that should be on every itinerary.

What Is the Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway?

This byway is a 52-mile long corridor that mainly follows New York State Route 28. There are short extensions on routes 42 and 214 that’ll take you through the heart of the central Catskills. Emerson Resort is located on Route 28, so the resort is a great starting point for your adventure. Before setting off from the resort, be sure to download the audio tours and map from Drive28.

The byway is organized within four towns, which contain other communities.

What to See during Your Drive

There is plenty to do and see during your scenic drive. The 52 miles are filled with everything from recreational activities to delicious restaurants, shopping, art galleries, and historical spots.

With so much to do and see, leave an entire day open for exploration. If you are looking for a more structured trip, download an itinerary. There are itineraries for adventure lovers, NYC water and railroad history excursions, a treasure hunt for families, and a list of stops for foodies
